Nire

10/25/07

Josh Hinton and Erin Morgan phone it in from Portland, OR.

"Nire’s somnambulistic hymns capture a gentle dreamlike state, an intimacy which seems like eavesdropping on some private moments." And it's especially so over the phone. Warm, warm, warm.

New album Vespers out now on Abandoned Love Records!

Songs:

Unfamiliar Faces / Mary / Girl in the Moon / The Light is Blinding / Dark Skies, or Waiting for the Sun / White Owl

Flowers From the Man Who Shot Your Cousin

Morgan Caris phones it in at 1:30am from Paris, France. In order not to wake the neighbors he had to play quietly, even unplugging the refrigerator. Fragile songs floating in a gentle sea of phone static, which lends them an intimacy and immediacy even beyond that which they already possess. You'd never guess this was a transatlantic phone call rather than a snatch of Leonard Cohen's demos.

Songs:

Running Dry / Postcards From a River / Mouldings / Girls / Lay Down Your Arms / Saddled Up

DUFUS

Seth Faergolzia, Alex Coronado, and Gaybot phone it in from Ithaca, NY. Dufus doesn't sound like anything else. Picture the yip-yip's from Sesame Street playing passionate improv antifolk prog (order those any way you'd like) and would you be close? No! You would not be close to the unadulterated awesomeness that is Dufus.

Songs:

Black & Blue / Dawn Crusade / Babylon Com / How I Whistle

Starts about six minutes into the mp3.

Dave End

10/4/07

Olive Juice Music's Dave End is the best. Inspired equally by early 90s female singer-songwriters and Disney musicals, Dave infuses sexual politics with a sense of fun and tenderness often absent in transgressive music, i.e., queer cupcake loving honesty pop!

Songs:

Twinkle, Twinkle / And By Queen... / Awestrike / When I Was Thirteen / Phat Camp / By the Look of Things / Sophie's Song / No Strings

CP/DP, Deer Tick, & Liz Isenberg

9/27/07

Chris Paddock, Diego Perez, John McCauley, and Liz Isenberg phone it in from Providence, RI. What rightfully should have been an historic session is marred by shitty cel phone quality, but the songs shine through brightly, so brightly. And there are still moments of clarity, like an intermittently damaged 78.

Listen and then- I beg you, I entreat you!- check 'em all out individually.

Deer Tick - Baltimore Blues No. 1
