The Battle of Land and Sea

We received the transmission at midnight. Coming in over the AM waves, it could have come from anywhere, but in fact we later discovered that it had no source, emerging seemingly out of the aether. It sounded like the last dark days of the carnival. We couldn't sleep for days, playing the recording over and over after the sun went down, until the magnetic tape finally disintegrated and it was gone again.

Sarah O'Shura and Joshua Canny, aka the Battle of Land and Sea, phone it in from their super's office in Portland, OR. RIYL Marissa Nadler or Mazzy Star.

Songs:

Saltwater Queen / Birdsong / Six Days / You Are A Sailor / The Beautiful Ones / I Built the Sea

Sam King

Sam King phones it in from the Dinosaur House in Fayetteville, AR. It sounds so familiar, like a warm blanket or a bittersweet memory, and yet... and yet...

Southern songs that lodge in the back of your head, so simple and so nice:

Anxious Actors / We Don't Get the Blues / Desert/Ocean (Fire Don't Care) / Be What You Are / Somebody's going to find out soon / Revolve-ers / 1980's Finest / 10 Years / Insight you might have while driving in the midwest

Peter Dizozza

Singing lawyer, playwright, Antifolker, and SidewalkCafe regular Peter Dizozza phones it in from the Lambs in NYC, NY.

"Intensely neurotic, insanely talented, Peter's Queens-geek lawyer persona completely disappears when he sits down at the piano and grinds out some of the most twistedly sexy show tunes this side of Sondheim. His Antifolk musicals, 'Prepare To Meet Your Maker', 'The Last Dodo', and 'The Eleventh Hour' have featured performances from such Antifolk as Jeff Lewis, Kimya Dawson, Cockroach, Toby Goodshank, Grey Revell, Tom Warnick, and Tony Hightower. In addition, Peter can also be seen gigging frequently both solo and with his band."

Songs:

Hold On (from TentagatneT)
Mole King Song (from Hermaphroditism Through the Ages)
Only For A While (from Hermaphroditism Through the Ages)
A Killing on Broadway
While You Were Out (from Hermaphroditism Through the Ages)
